DEMARA SYLVESTER
Damara Sylvester stumbled upon conscious dance on a tiny island off the West Coast of Canada in 1998.
Since then, she has been influence by Five Rhythms, Butoh dance, Zuleikha, Feldenkrais, Qi Gong, Capoeira, Circus and physical theatre and many dance forms.
She has been enjoying teaching and innovating investigative mash-ups of all of the above for the past 20 years.
Damara runs her company InsideOut Circus and Physical Theatre, and is a second year Masters student in the faculty of Creative Arts Therapy, Whitecliffe.
Reclaiming Our Dimensional Self
Examining a decolonisation of movement, imagination and voice.
We are creatures of habit, and civilians of systems. We are also animals. Both shape how we move in the world, and how we relate to time and space.
This workshop calls on inspiration and tools from Butoh dance, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement, Linklater Vocal training and physical theatre to move us towards a reclamation of range within time and space.
